懐かしくて、新しいとはこのこと。1995年から1997年にかけて『たまごっち』や『小室ファミリー』などと並んで社会現象的な大ブームを呼んだアニメ『新世紀エヴァンゲリオン』。本作が10年ぶりに劇場版アニメとしてリビルドされた。リビルドとは、原画などの素材をデジタル化して、作品として再構築すること。CGで描かれたメカの圧倒的なディティール、物量、デジタル撮影のテクノロジー（技術）。手描きのキャラクターと美術のテクニック（技術）。技術×技術＝おそらく2007～8年最高峰のクオリティになっている。四部作の第一作目となるストーリーはテレビシリーズの第8話までがベース。14歳の少年シンジがいきなり人造人間エヴァンゲリオンに乗るハメになり、傷つき、苦しむ姿が描かれる。これがまた、グッとくるのだ。セクシーな萌えシンジは今回の『ヱヴァ』の見どころのひとつ。後半の第6の使徒との戦いは、完全新作。日本中の電気を一点集中して、第6の使徒を撃ち抜く緊張感とシンジの葛藤は手に汗握るはず。パチンコでしか『エヴァ』を知らない人にも、見ていただきたい、掛け値なしの傑作。続編も楽しみ。（志田英邦）
